Snowfake schema basics
- A snow flake schema is star schema with little normalization added to the dimension tables. The reason is because in some cases the dimension tables are hard to maintain and we have readability issues so we want to make the tables as small as possible. We apply normalization rules to it.
- A snow flake schema is nothing but a normalize form of star schema.
Why use a snow flake schema?
- To logically separate large dimension tables.
- To more naturally separate dimension tables like known costumers vs anonymous tables etc.
the tables are easy to understand but hard to maintain..
