Understanding fact table


  • A fact table is a collection of measurement. The word measurement can only occurs when we are talking about numeric data. In fact table our main concern is the numeric data. A single fact table is about a specific business process.
  • For example, How many products we sold, what was there weight, what the price etc. in a fact table the data is usually numeric.
  • Fact table may contain multiple measurements, if they are closely related.
  • A data warehouse may have many fact tables, that is because we have many business areas, and therefore each fact table contain the details about a specific business area.
